Cotton may be the fabric of our lives but when it comes to binding carpet and area rugs cotton binding tape falls short in many ways. Cotton binding tape tends to fade, is only available in a limited number of colors and is more expensive to purchase then other binding tapes.
Polyester binding tapes are preferred because they hold their color, come in 450-plus colors and are less expensive to purchase. In addition there are specially treated sun resistant binding tapes for rugs that are used outside.
